I believe that everyone has a right to fly whatever flag they choose. In America, we have freedom to do almost whatever we want (within reason). If people want to fly a flag, they can. I don't like the flag, but the right should not be taken away. People have the right to do whatever they want within reason. Side: Yes. It's their civil right.
You argue "within reason." Who gets to decide what's acceptable? Yes, we are free in America, but that doesn't mean that we aren't guided by our ethics. Is is ethical to fly a flag that represents a time when Americans were divided? Is it ethical to call yourself an American and fly a flag that is technically anti-American? Side: No. It promotes racism.

People should be allowed to fly the confederate flag. It is a right of the individual. Whether it is right or wrong that's a choice of opinion but they have the right to be able to do it. It may stand for something that others don't agree with but that's how life works. No body agrees with everyone. They might say by taking it away would take away rights and history. And as of now that is correct. They have the right to be able to fly it. Side: Yes. It's their civil right.
Legally can they fly it? Yes, they can. Morally? Is that something that we want to embrace an an American? It is illegal to fly the Nazi flag in Germany. People could argue that the confederate flag represents as much hate and destruction as the Nazi flag. Why would someone want to embrace hatred? Side: No. It promotes racism.

People should be able to fly a confederate flag because it is their choice. If it offends a person, let it. If anyones flag offends me I'm not going make a big deal out of it because its their beliefs not mine. If you're not from the South and you have it flying around big deal, maybe the persons parents or grandparents have the South in their background. If they don't, so be it. Not your choice if they do or not. Side: Yes. It's their civil right.
